How to Grow a Charcoal Crystal Garden

Make delicate, colorful crystals! This is a great classic crystal-growing project. You use charcoal briquettes (or other porous materials), ammonia, salt, bluing, and food coloring to grow a sort of crystal garden. The components of the garden are toxic, so adult supervision is recommended. Be sure to keep your growing garden away from young children and pets! This can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. Materials You only need a few materials for this project. The key ingredients are ammonia, salt, and laundry bluing. If you dont use food coloring, expect the crystals to be white and clear. With the coloring, remember some colors may bleed into other to give a watercolor effect. Charcoal Briquettes (or pieces of sponge or brick or porous rock)Distilled WaterUniodized SaltAmmoniaBluing (shop online)Food ColoringNon-Metal Pie Plate (glass is great)Measuring SpoonsEmpty Jar Instructions Place chunks of your substrate (i.e., charcoal briquette, sponge, cork, brick, porous rock) in an even layer in the non-metal pan. You want pieces that are roughly 1-inch in diameter, so you may need to (carefully) use a hammer to break the material up.Sprinkle water, preferably distilled, onto the substrate until is has been thoroughly dampened. Pour off any excess water. In an empty jar, mix 3 tablespoons (45 ml) un-iodized salt, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) ammonia, and 6 tablespoons (90 ml) bluing. Stir until the salt is dissolved.Pour the mixture over the prepared substrate.Add and swirl a bit of water around in the empty jar to pick up the remaining chemicals and pour this liquid onto the substrate, too.Add a drop of food coloring here and there across the surface of the garden. Areas with no food coloring will be white.Sprinkle more salt (about 2 T or about 30 ml) across the surface of the garden.Set the garden in an area where it will not be disturbed. On days 2 and 3, pour a mixture of ammonia, water, and bluing (2 tablespoons or 30 ml each) in the bottom of the pan, being careful not to disturb the delicate growing crystals.Keep the pan in an undisturbed place, but check on it periodically to watch your very cool garden grow! Useful Tips If you cant find bluing at a store near you, it is available online: http://www.mrsstewart.com/ (Mrs. Stewarts Bluing).Crystals form on the porous materials and grow by drawing up the solution using capillary action. Water evaporates on the surface, depositing solids/forming crystals, and pulling more solution up from the base of the pie plate.

A Doll s House Henrik Ibsen - 962 Words

Drama Analysis A Doll’s House (Henrik Ibsen) And Trifles (Susan Glaspell) In comparing both dramas, the overwhelming aspect of convergence between both is the open discussion of gender identity. Both dramas make similar points about what it means to be a woman. Modern society in both dramas is constructed with men holding power over women. This is seen in Trifles in how men like George Henderson and Mr. Hale are myopic. The premise of the drama is how women worry over trifles, and the dismissive attitude towards women as critical thinkers is an essential part of the drama s social construction. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters are forced to deal with a social setting where their own thoughts and perceptions are devalued. Nora finds herself in a similar circumstance. Her husband Torvald refuses to acknowledge that she is capable of complex thoughts and should be seen as a full human being. His control over her behavior and the rules he establishes over her remove her dignity as an individual. The men in Trifles and Torvald in A Doll s House are similar in that they are in the position of power and refuse to validate the voice of women as participatory members of the social setting. The social construction in which men refuse to acknowledge women is an integral part of both dramas. Another similarity shared by both dramas is the need for women to take action. In the face of a social setting in which women s voices are silenced, women themselves must take action. The action mightShow MoreRelatedHenrik Ibsen s A Doll House1563 Words   |  7 Pages In the play, A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, the title itself symbolizes the dependent and degraded role of the wife within traditional marriages. REVIEW IN LITERATURE OF HUMAN RESOURCE Every business unit needs human resource (manpower) for the conduct of different business activities. In fact, no organisation can exist or operate efficiently without the support of human resource. Such human resource includes top level managers, executives, supervisors and other subordinate / lower level staff / employees. A business organisation has to estimate its future manpower needs and adjust its manpower planning and development programmes accordingly. This is called ‘staffing’ function of management. Human resource management is also described as personnel management or manpower management. According to Edwin Flippo, â€Å"Personnel Management is the planning, organizing , directing and controlling of the procurement, development, compensation, integration and maintenance of people for the purpose of contributing to organizational, individual and social goals†. Various areas such as recruitment and selection, wage payment and industrial l relations are covered under human resource management. Human Resource Development Human Resource Development (HRD) means to develop available manpower through suitable methods such as training, promotions, transfers and opportunities for career development. HRD programmes create a team of welltrained, efficient and capable managers and subordinates. Such team constitutes an important asset of an enterprise. One organisation is different from another mainly because of the people (employees) working therein. According to Peter F . Druker, â€Å"the prosperity, if not the survival of any business depends on the performance of its managers of tomorrow. † The human resource should be nurtured and used for the benefit of the organisation. Human resource is most important resource in management and needs to be used efficiently. This is because success, stability and growth of an organisation depend on its ability in acquiring, utilizing and developing the human resources for the benefit of the organisation. In the final analysis, it is the people (i. e employees) who produce promising results and generate a climate conductive to the growth and development of an organisation. HR is a highly productive corporate asset and the overall performance of companies and corporations depends upon the extent to which it is effectively developed and utilised. It is the most delicate factor of production and need not be treated merely as a commodity to be bought and used in factories. According to Peter Drucker, â€Å"The function of management is to manage managers, workers and work†. The importance of manpower in business management is now universally accepted. Employees have a capacity to grow and develop, if suitable opportunities are offered. They give positive response to monetary and nonmonetary incentives, training opportunities, favorable work environment and motivation. According to Pigors and Myers, â€Å"Good management means getting effective results with people†. This suggests the importance of human resource. Human resource is certainly important even in this age of extensive use of computer technology. This is because machine cannot be used as a substitute for human brain which has capacity to think, assess and react. It is correct to say that man is a power rather than man has a power. Progressive / professional managements invest huge funds on training and development of human resource and this suggests the importance of human resource and its contribution in industrial and economic development. Professionally managed companies in India such as Larsen and Toubro Ltd, TELCO, Reliance, etc. , give specia l importance and good attention to HRD. Apex Case Study free essay sample

Given the limited information in this case, which product would you recommend that Apex commercialize? Why? I would recommend that Apex commercialize Compound B-227. First, there is a much larger market size and future growth potential with B-227 at $40 Million and climbing vs. A-115 which is at $10 million and relatively flat and stable. This means that even if Apex tried to innovate with A-115 and theoretically captured 100% of the market, which is not likely considering they would be competing with a very well established company, Hamfield, they would only have $10 million to show for it and nothing past that amount since it’s a stable market. If they choose to commercialize with B-227, they would only need to capture 25% of the market in order to reap the same revenue potential, which is a much more realistic and obtainable goal. Aside from dollars and cents, we need to look at what Apex specializes in. We will write a custom essay sample on Apex Case Study or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The company is not known at all in the electrolysis market and, again, would be competing with one major player who dominates the market share. Not only would Apex need to establish itself in a brand new market, but it would have to do so with a new product that isn’t really desired at this point amongst potential customers. I believe that this would prove to be a waste of time, energy and money for Apex to try and venture into. While Apex believes that customers would gravitate towards A-115 because it is a superior product, we have learned that innovation is not always about providing a better product or service and they should consider that in their decision making process. A-115 should not be viewed as the â€Å"silver bullet† which will cause their enterprise to grow – they need consider the entire innovation process in order to achieve enterprise growth. On the other hand, there is a desire in the market for B-227 so it’s already known that if Apex focused its energy in innovating toward that product, there would definitely be a positive reaction from its customers. As mentioned in the case, Apex currently loses 10% of its sales to betas – so if they start producing that there is a 10% immediate growth potential and since this is a growing market, it can potentially be even higher. Furthermore, Apex has already established itself in the oxidizer field so it will be able to use that fact to their advantage since they won’t have to completely reinvent their company and try to assert itself in the market. While there are more competitors in this space because of desire in the market, if Apex chooses to commercialize this product effectively it can easily use the name it’s already made for itself to further the company’s growth. Further, Apex should consider what their internal messaging is and how its employees will react to the product that they ultimately choose to commercialize. I would think that employees would be motivated to expand their stigone expertise by providing betas with B-227. This would show clear, consistent messaging of vision from Apex leadership to its employees. If they went the A-115 route, I would fear that employees would be confused in how they would need to produce, market and sell a completely new product which could prove problematic in making the initiative a success. In short, as the readings have indicated thus far, producing a completely new product is not always the best choice for a company. It’s sometimes better to build off of products/services/processes that the company already has in place so that they can better deliver to their customers. By choosing to commercialize B-227 Apex would have greater growth potential as well as displaying a clear vision of company strategy to both its employees and customers.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Music Essay Example For Students

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Music Essay The Classical period of music was from 1750-1825. Mozart played a huge role as a great composer in this time. He took on new challenges and different possibilities for music in this era. Classicism of music did not mean that it was strictly traditional. A lot of composers, including Mozart experimented with different materials. He also used a lot of romantic elements in his music. The classical style is based off symmetry of four-bar phrases and usually moves by small steps and has a narrow range. There are four movements of the Classical-Romantic era. The first movement s long, dramatic and written in sonata-allegro form. The second movement is slow, lyrical and is in a modified sonata-allegro form. The third movement is danceable, moderately slow and is variably a minuet and trio. The last movement, the fourth, is lively, spirited and is a spirited rondo form. The movie gave a great aspect of Amadeus Mozart life. He was a very gifted child who composed music before the age of five. We will write a custom essay on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Music specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Mozart life was very different from most because he grew up composing and playing music for people including royalty. He never had a revised piece of music. Whenever Mozart chose to write on a sheet of sic, that was the final product. Most people couldnt grasp the concept that he could hear it in his head and then compose a wonderful work of music, without a single revision. People admired him deeply. Other composers wanted to be him or like him. He was always asked to compose a new piece and/or teach their daughters about music and how to play the piano. Mozart ended up establishing himself in Vienna as a struggling freelance musician. He then reached a peak in his career. Some of Mozart most famous pieces are, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Coos an tutee. These were all produced in the late sasss. Society was absolutely astounded by his work. Mozart admired his father Leopold Mozart. He wanted his father to be proud of him. His father is the one that taught him how to compose music. He stood by his side through the years of growing up and into his twenties. When Mozart was twenty- six, he married Constance Weber. His father was outraged. They had a distant relationship from then on. Later his father died, and Mozart went into a dark phase. He was composing darker pieces, which was known to be because of the death of his father. The movie, Amadeus, takes a very interesting look at Mozart life. He started out ere prosperous and eager to compose music and then after the death of his father, it was like he couldnt do it anymore and it was making him sick. It almost seemed that that was what killed him. Also, I noticed he was able to relate to society through his music. People from all over would come to hear his music, but when it came to interacting with people aside from the music, he was a bit odd. I feel that since he grew up mainly composing and playing music that he didnt know how to function in society without that. He needed it. Mozart is still to this day one of the most famous and historical composers of all Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Music By slipknot birthday. He rebelled against society and wrote music the way he wanted to. He was brilliant. One of my favorite pieces of his is Nine Klein Machinists (A little Night Music). My favorite aspects of this piece are the sound of the string quartet and how it starts out allegro and goes to andante and then back to allegro. It captures you from beginning to end because of the distinct cheerful sound of the piece. It Just makes me want to get up and dance. After studying Amadeus Mozart I now have a liking to the Classical era. I will definitely be enjoying more of his music in the near future.

Commanders of the first World War essays

Commanders of the first World War essays The war consisted of a number of commanders and yet none of them were commanders of the first rank. The first world war was the only war ever fought in which commanders lacked voice control over their armies. Communications broke down almost immediately after the troops left the trenches. Chief of the German General staff, 1906-1914, Von Molke modified the original schlieffen plan for the invasion of France. Instead of keeping the right wing of the Germans strong, Von Molke reinforced the left because he thought that the French would push through the centre of into Lorraine and create problems for German communications. The removal of two infantries and one cavalry corps from the western to the eastern fronts, made it impossible for the German army to encircle Paris. The schlieffen plan failed to meet its goals. Molke stationed himself too far behind the front line, meaning that he had little control over his field commanders. Due to these decisions Von Molke lost the first battle of the Marne in 1914. He was replaced in late 1914 by Falkenhayn. Falkenhayn was appointed Prussian war minister in 1913 and succeeded Von Molke as Chief of General Staff in September 1914. Falkenhayn disagreed with General Paul Von Hindenburg and Von Ludendorff about concentrating German efforts to defeat Russia. Instead he believed the war would be won in the west and concentrated all available forces against France and Britain. The German Chancellor, Bethman Hollweg, was highly critical of Falkenhayn's inability to achieve victory on the western front.. He lost his post as Chief of General Staff to Von Hindenburg after the failure to capture Verdun in August 1916. Falkenhayn was transferred to Palestine in July 1917. After being beaten several times by General Allenby in Palestine, Falkenhayn was replaced by General Von Sanders. His last command before retirement was in 1918 with the German Tenth Army in Lithuanian. On the outbreak of th...
