Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Music Essay The Classical period of music was from 1750-1825. Mozart played a huge role as a great composer in this time. He took on new challenges and different possibilities for music in this era. Classicism of music did not mean that it was strictly traditional. A lot of composers, including Mozart experimented with different materials. He also used a lot of romantic elements in his music. The classical style is based off symmetry of four-bar phrases and usually moves by small steps and has a narrow range. There are four movements of the Classical-Romantic era. The first movement s long, dramatic and written in sonata-allegro form. The second movement is slow, lyrical and is in a modified sonata-allegro form. The third movement is danceable, moderately slow and is variably a minuet and trio. The last movement, the fourth, is lively, spirited and is a spirited rondo form. The movie gave a great aspect of Amadeus Mozart life. He was a very gifted child who composed music before the age of five. He stood by his side through the years of growing up and into his twenties. When Mozart was twenty- six, he married Constance Weber. His father was outraged. They had a distant relationship from then on. Later his father died, and Mozart went into a dark phase. He was composing darker pieces, which was known to be because of the death of his father. The movie, Amadeus, takes a very interesting look at Mozart life. He started out ere prosperous and eager to compose music and then after the death of his father, it was like he couldnt do it anymore and it was making him sick. It almost seemed that that was what killed him. Also, I noticed he was able to relate to society through his music. People from all over would come to hear his music, but when it came to interacting with people aside from the music, he was a bit odd. I feel that since he grew up mainly composing and playing music that he didnt know how to function in society without that. He needed it. He was replaced in late 1914 by Falkenhayn. Falkenhayn was appointed Prussian war minister in 1913 and succeeded Von Molke as Chief of General Staff in September 1914. Falkenhayn disagreed with General Paul Von Hindenburg and Von Ludendorff about concentrating German efforts to defeat Russia. Instead he believed the war would be won in the west and concentrated all available forces against France and Britain. The German Chancellor, Bethman Hollweg, was highly critical of Falkenhayn's inability to achieve victory on the western front.. He lost his post as Chief of General Staff to Von Hindenburg after the failure to capture Verdun in August 1916. Falkenhayn was transferred to Palestine in July 1917. Sherwood Anderson in his book Winesburg, Ohio, changes the expected metaphor or connection between death and love. In both stories Tom Willard plays a minimal part. He does however give an example of the connection between death and love in his own distorted manner. Tom prides himself, falsely, on the notion that he is an important man around town. He has always envisioned himself rising up in the political scene in Winesburg, or even becoming Governor. His wife, Elizabeth Willard is like death to him. In his mind, she looms over his dreams casting a shadow that he blames for his meager existence. In the story mother, he describes her presence to be â€Å"ghostly† and when he thinks of her he swears angrily (39). Sometimes when he is out in the street he turns to look behind him suddenly as if her ghost and the â€Å"spirit of the hotel† were their casting their shadow on him even in the streets. Tom connects Elizabeth and the hotel to his inability to find success. His life is dominated by the affairs of the shabby hotel. The hotel is a legacy of Elizabeth’s father’s; she walks around in the hotel like it’s her coffin. So for Tom their presence is a reminder of his uneventful life. They are represent the death of his hopes and dreams. He at one point says, â€Å"Damn such a life, damn it† (39), in a context that places blame on Elizabeth and the hotel. It is as if with the death of Elizabeth you might see Tom picturing himself selling the hotel, and going to Ohio’s capital to become serious statesman. In Mother, Elizabeth is looking for a different kind of liberation. Elizabeth’s dreams for her own life have long ago died. Yet she clings to life for the sake of one thought. She is trying to ensure that her son (George Willard) does not become a lifeless thing like herself.
